SUMMARY:Yodels and Polyphonies of the Baka People – a Workshop with Su Hart
DESCRIPTION:\n\nIn this workshop, we’ll explore and learn the Yelli (yodel) and polyphonic chants of the Baka.\nFor generations, the polyphony of the Baka people, living in the Central African rainforest, has been woven into daily life — from work to ritual.\nAmong the Baka, singing builds community, brings healing, and soothes children to sleep. The Yelli, sung mostly by women at dawn, is believed to enchant the animals, create harmony with the forest, and support success in the hunt.\nWhen: November 14th-15th 2026; Saturday & Sunday, 11.00-17.00\nWhere: Rudolf Steiner Schule, Schützengasse 54,\n2502 Bienne/Biel\nPrice: 320 swiss fr regular fee; 280 swiss fr early fee till September 25th 2026; discount possible on request\n\n\nREGISTRATION / info / CONTACT ( https://risha.ch/contact/ )\n\n\nEvent website: https://risha.ch/music/agenda/workshop-with-su-hart/\n\n\nSu Hart is a community singing leader, composer and lead vocalist with Baka Beyond an international touring AfroCeltic dance band, rooted in the music of the Baka Forest people. She has spent much time since 1992 living in Cameroon with the Baka women, who have initiated her into their singing tradition and allowed her to teach beyond the forest. Her teaching style is inclusive & joyful encouraging active listening, confidence & fun. She gives back to the Baka through the charity Global Music Exchange.\n\n\n
